Celebrating Mexican Independence: History, Fun Facts, and the Role of Mexican Builders

¡Viva México!

Every September 16th, Mexican hearts beat louder, remembering that day in 1810 when Father Miguel Hidalgo launched the famous “Grito de Dolores”. That cry wasn’t just the beginning of Independence—it was the shout that still echoes in every Mexican fair, every late-night taco stand, and every mariachi song that makes us cry with pride.

The party starts the night of the 15th: the president steps out onto the balcony of the National Palace to reenact the Grito, the plazas fill with families, the skies explode with fireworks, and the tables overflow with chiles en nogada, pozole, tostadas, tequila, and of course, the laughter of everyone yelling “¡Viva!”.

The colors of our flag aren’t just decoration: green is hope (like when we keep pushing forward even when things get tough), white is unity (because together we always make it happen), and red is the blood of our heroes… and also of the spicy salsas that set us on fire but we love anyway.

And speaking of heroes, today we also honor those building modern Mexico: our bricklayers, engineers, architects, and contractors. With helmets and tools in hand, they raise homes, schools, and entire cities. At events like Expo Contratista, these warriors of cement and creativity come together to share ideas, discover new technologies, and of course, to prove that Mexicans don’t just work hard—we build the future!

Independence isn’t only celebrated with music and food—it also lives in the sweat, passion, and perseverance of those who, day by day, construct a stronger Mexico. Because being Mexican means laughing through everything, crying with mariachi, toasting with tequila, and no matter what, shouting with all our souls:

¡Que viva México, que vivan los constructores, y que nunca falte el pozole!
